Yesterday I completed my first series of boombox paintings. All ten paintings are mixed media (acrylic paint, color pencil, graphite, and paper) on canvas mounted on panel.
Watch this space. I’m starting series two straight away.

More thin layers of vulnerability added. Specifically acrylic paint, graphite, and color pencil. Moving along, making progress. Adding even more layers next.

More layers added. More layers needed. Here are some more work in progress images.
Showing work in progress makes usually makes me feel vulnerable. I’d like to reflect on this more and perhaps write about it more at a later date. Regardless, I need to feel more comfortable opening up in this manner. Which is why I am making a conscious effort to show things in an incomplete state.

I have a moving sale update. Just received these pictures from happy customers, Todd & Erin Ziaja. My paintings, Get It While You Can, and Reliable are now theirs, and hanging up in their home in Austin, Texas. I am always very grateful when my work is displayed on the walls of someone’s home. I also appreciate seeing how they’ve chosen to display my work. It feels great.
They look great! Thanks for the pictures, Todd.

Been exploring and experimenting. Having fun seeing where these are going. Building momentum, but far from finished. A lot more exploration and experimentation to come. Many layers to go The creative journey continues down its winding path.

I’ve been in the studio for hours at a time, almost every day. Lots of new ideas happening. Writing things down. Sketching. Doodling.
I have also started a new series of work based on a new subject. The old school boombox, and the time period in which they had their heyday. I’m also digging into their impact in my life and cultural significance overall. I don’t have much else to say about it, nor do I know how these will end up looking. That in itself is appropriate and advantageous. It feels like a charge. I’m excited about the ability to experiment and explore and further process my thoughts and further develop my concept.

Since last May, so much has happened. I plan to stay on my upward trajectory. I’m going to keep myself in the orange as best I can.
The Color Orange: Orange indicates self-assurance, excitement, and zeal. Orange possesses orange-spiritual properties such as creativity, emotional balance, sexuality, harmony, passion, freedom, intuition, and emotional expression. Seeing orange is said to be an excellent omen. It means that there will be much happiness for you.

Studio 2600 is the name of my art studio, at least for now it is. Sometimes a whim sticks around, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Studio 2600 ends up being the permanent name.
As you can see from these photos, I’m getting settled in. Feeling more comfortable in my new art studio every day.
I’ve already taken the longview. I hope this is my art studio for years, even decades.

Once I decided to move, I knew I had to have an artwork moving sale. My small, one room studio was jammed with my art. Paintings made and exhibited over the years. So prices were slashed, and deals were made. Paintings were picked up. Paintings were dropped off. Paintings were shipped.
This photo was sent to me by the happy customers. My painting looks magnificent in their spacious home. Love it.

All told these were the paintings sold in the moving sale:
Bad Scene
Buying Power
The Fifth Floor
Half Past You
Alpha Fail
Shortcuts & Long Shots
Reliable
Get It While You Can
Vulgar Praise
Thank you again for your support.
Here are a few details from the series of mixed media paintings I made a few years ago. Looking back now, it’s interesting to see these images showing this work in progress, incomplete. These paintings were made for my solo exhibition at Besherat Gallery in Atlanta called Mastering the Art of Contradiction. The success of his exhibition led to second solo exhibition of the Mastering the Art of Contradiction series at the Glynn Visual Arts gallery, located in St. Simons Island, GA. See photos here.
This series was created during a very uncertain time in my life. I was feeling unsettled in many ways at once. My anxiety level was very high (even for me). Those thoughts always come to me when viewing the work. Overall, I am proud of this series.

I was working on class preparations in my studio this morning when I noticed the sunlight highlighting a section of a collage I made many years ago. Robert Mitchum from The Night of the Hunter. There it is. Another valuable nugget from the mine. Something I can use, right now.
Sometimes it’s right in front of you. An idea. Sometimes it’s staring right at you. Not waiting to be seen, waiting to be revealed and placed in the hands of the creative process.

Here are some images from my exhibition last month. Thank you to Glynn Visual Arts in St. Simons Island, GA. All work is available for sale. Reach out to me if you are interested in buying or commissioning artwork.
